Scenic villages, caves & gastronomy

Southern Ardeche is the perfect place for an authentic stay in the heart of nature, with an already sunny Provence-like climate, an extraordinary historical and architectural heritage, local products & cuisine and plenty of outdoor activities.

Proced to your hotel. Dinner and overnight stay.

Day 2: Vogüé / Balazuc / Aven d’Orgnac

Guided tour of 2 medieval villages classified as “Most Beautiful Villages of France”. Vogüé is built in an amphitheater and leaning against a cliff on the banks of the Ardeche river, dominated by the castle. Then drive to Balazuc, also perched high above the river: maze of winding and steep streets, vaulted passages, a Romanesque church, a square keep.

Lunch in a local restaurant.

Guided tour of the Aven d’Orgnac cave, an “underground cathedral” with its giant concretions and fine crystallizations, in a depth of 121 m.

Return to the hotel. Dinner and overnight stay.

Day 3 : Chauvet Cave / Lavender Museum / Ardèche Gorges / Return

Breakfast at the hotel.

Departure to the Cave of Chauvet and guided tour of the exact replica of the ornamented cave of the Pont-d’Arc, which was classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2014. The cave displays the same engravings, drawings and paintings, including exceptional animal frescoes created by our ancestors some 36,000 years ago.

Then, visit the Aurignacian Gallery to understand better the lifestyles and environment of our ancestors.

Lunch in a local restaurant.

Drive to a lavender grove, tour by little train and guided visit of the lavender museum. Learn all about the plant, from its subtle perfume and its cultivation throughout the ages to the artisanal distillation.

Finally, on the way to your next destination, enjoy the panoramic road of the Gorges de l’Ardèche, which shows a succession of lookouts on vertiginous canyons and cliffs. Don’t forget to take a picture of the famous Pont d’Arc, the famous and impressive natural stone arch.
