All facets of Catalonia in 5 days
Catalonia is a land of many attractions, between the sea and the mountains, and offers a range of natural and cultural wonders like nowhere else. From the Pyrenees to the Mediterranean, Catalonia has everything you could wish for nature off the beaten track, authentic and friendly culture, and a surprisingly diverse gastronomy. 5 days with a Catalan accent and colours!
program
Day 1 – Arrival Collioure
Meet in Collioure to discover the village at your own pace: the port, the creeks, the narrow streets and the shops selling local specialities: anchovies, the almond crunch, the olive oil… Settle in your charming hotel in Collioure or surroundings.
Day 2 – Return to medieval times – Saint-Martin-Du-Canigou – Villefranche de Conflent
Leave your hotel and drive to St Martin du Canigou, an abbey located at the top of the Canigou mountain, symbol of Catalonia. Walk up to the abbey like the pilgrims on their way to Compostela used to do, discovering fantastic scenery and views over the valley (if you don’t want to walk, special 4X4 access to the abbey at extra cost).
In the afternoon, discover Villefranche de Conflent, a fortified town that has preserved its ramparts, its narrow streets where art and crafts are present. On the way back, make stops in typical villages such as Eus or Ille sur Tet.
Day 3 – Villages and Crafts – Ceret – Arles sur Tech – St Laurent de Cerdans
Leave your hotel along the Tech valley crossing the Pyrenees to reach St Laurent de Cerdans. This small village has a real craft tradition. Here you will find the last workshop for the production of the famous espadrilles and also the production of Catalan cloth.
Stop at Arles sur Tech to visit the village of craftsmen and artists, located in an old weaving factory. Painters, cutlers, ceramists, stained glass artists… will welcome you in their workshops.
In the afternoon, visit the village of Ceret. For almost 100 years, Ceret has been a living example of Art since 1911, having welcomed some of the greatest artists of the 20th century such as Picasso, Braques, Gris, Herbin, Masson, Soutine and Chagall, among others.
Today, thanks in part to the Museum of Modern Art and its involvement in contemporary creativity, art lives on in Ceret.
Other activities in Ceret on request: hiking, paragliding, canyoning, mountain activities.
Day 4 – Perpignan – Collioure – Banuyls
In the morning, drive to Perpignan and visit with your private guide the old town punctuated by two tastings of local sweet specialities.
In the afternoon, drive along the Cote Vermeille to discover the most spectacular views: steep vineyards ending at the seaside, hidden coves. Possible extra activities: boat trip, diving, sea kayak, paddle…
Day 5 – Salses and departure
Before leaving Catalonia, discover the castle of Salses, a real lock that controlled the former border between France and Spain
