Discovery tour of Bordeaux, Perigord, Cognac & La Rochelle
This eight day loop departing and ending in Bordeaux is both a trip through history, mainly medieval and prehistoric times and a discovery of some of the most famous vineyards of western France, including Cognac. This part of France has a lot to offer and benefits from a pleasant climate with plenty of sunshine.

DAY 1 – BORDEAUX
Arrival in Bordeaux
Meet with your English speaking guide and enjoy a 2 hour walking tour through the historical centre.
After lunch, enjoy a digestive walk on the quays and soak your feet in the Water Mirror.
Then visit “La Cité du Vin” a unique cultural centre dedicated to the universal heritage of wine.
Dinner and overnight in Bordeaux
DAY 2 – ARCACHON & DUNE DU PILAT
Early departure to the Bay of Arcachon. Enjoy a Gourmet cruise aboard a catamaran (28 people maximum per boat) and taste local oysters and delicatessen while discovering the bay, the famous “cabanes tchanquées” (huts built on stills) and the Bird Island.
In the afternoon climb the famous Dune du Pilat.
Own arrangements for dinner. Overnight in Bordeaux
DAY 3 – SAINT EMILION
Depart to St Emilion. Guided tour to discover the essence of Saint-Émilion including the impressive monolithic church.
In the afternoon discover the vineyards and chateaux on foot or by bike! Admire the landscapes and understand their history as well as that of the Chateaux that mark out the itinerary. Stop in a vineyard property for a tasting tour.
Travel to the Perigord.
Dinner and overnight in Sarlat la Canéda
DAY 4 – DORDOGNE VALLEY
Explore Sarlat in the morning. Do not miss the surprising covered market installed in an ancient church.
Then explore the Dordogne Valley. Visit some of the most famous cities specially La Roque Gageac, Beynac and Cazenac and the medieval castle of Castelnaud.
Own arrangements for dinner. Overnight in Sarlat la Canéda
DAY 5 – LASCAUX & ANGOULEME
Today we travel back to prehistoric times. Guided tour of Lascaux 4 where a complete copy relates the dicovery of the famous painted cave.
In the afternoon travel to Angoulême. Visit of the Comic Museum where a complete history of French and American comics is displayed within a remarkable 1,300 m2 scenography.
Dinner and overnight in Angoulême
DAY 6 – COGNAC
Wonderful day in the Cognac country with a local specialist. The tour includes a visit of a cooperage, a walk in the vineyard with a presentation of the vineyard work and visits of two different distilleries with tastings. Lunch included en route.
Dinner at own expense. Overnight in La Rochelle
DAY 7 – LA ROCHELLE & ILE DE RE
This morning we explore La Rochelle, visits its towers or the incredible World War II bunker, seat of the Admiral and his U-boat commanders.
Short transfer to Ile de Ré. Visit of La Flotte and Ars en Ré, two of the “most beautiful villages of France” and Ste Clément des Baleines, famous for its Lighthouse. In the heart of the salt marshes, visit of a museum that recounts the story of the «white gold» that gave the island its prosperity in bygone days.
For dinner enjoy a seafood platter in one of the most famous restaurant of La Rochelle

Transfer to Bordeaux and departure
