ALONG THE RIVERSIDE FROM AUXERRE TO VEZELAY BY BIKE

9h00. After the adjustment of your bikes and the presentation of your itinerary by your guide, you start your day gently along the Nivernais canal. You pass through the locks decorated with flowers, passing the boats, admiring the nature.

You leave the waterfront to visit Cravant, a charming medieval town with various historical monuments: the 12th century donjon, the wash house, the wooden house near the fountain sculpted by Yves Varanguin, a local craftsman.

Then you take the water towards Bazarnes, Prégilbert, Mailly-la-Ville, Mailly-le-Château.

Facing the Rocks of Saussois, very popular with climbing schools all over France, a delicious picnic awaits you! Relax before setting off again.

In Châtel-Censoir you leave the waterfront and head towards Vézelay through the Bois de la Madeleine. After the Bois de la Madeleine, you can enjoy the magnificent spectacle of this majestic 900 year old basilica. To reach it, you’ll have to shift up a gear because it’s at the top of the hill, but it’s worth it! You don’t have to go to the basilica by bike: halfway up the hill park your bike and finish the climb by foot, admiring the shops of the local craftsmen and enjoying a good ice cream. Then there it is, majestic, in front of you, in all its splendor. Your guide will make you discover this great lady with a rich historical past.

At the end of the afternoon, the France à Vélo vehicle will take you back to Auxerre.
